I’m a painter, it’s in my bones. For years I made my living working in aerospace, but I am now back spending my energy creating art, most often with oil painting.

I’ve been  fortunate with mentors and instruction. I grew up in an artistic home with a graphic designer and fine artist for a grandfather. In high school I had the luck of being a studio assistant to Ellsworth Kelly which was life shaping in honing my eye and connection with abstract and contemporary art at large. I’ve had many classes at Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts and at Boston College. More recently I have had much support and mentoring from Jeff Yeomans, who has moved me forward in many dimensions, and has helped me plug into the San Diego art community.

Weather from a recent TransPac

Gallery at St James by the Sea

743 Prospect Street, LaJolla CA

This project is a result of a month sailing from California to Honolulu and back as part of the TransPac race. Indelible images in my mind, and many photographs resulted in these color studies which are my reminders of the joys and tensions of clouds and weather with many squalls along the way.   This is a departure from my more realistic and impressionistic works and has been a rewarding experience to relive the navigational decisions and beauty of open ocean sailing.

On display xx August 2025, in LaJolla.
